How to Store a Clothes Washer in Self-Storage?
If you need to store your clothes washer in a self-storage unit, there are a few essential steps to follow. Here are five simple steps to help you prepare and store your washing machine.
Step 1: Run the Washer
Start by running the washer on a normal clean cycle. If your washer has temperature control, use cold water mixed with a tablespoon of vinegar and set the temperature to warm. Run the cycle for at least one minute. If your washer doesn't have temperature control, use warm water mixed with a tablespoon of vinegar. After the cycle is done, drain the water and leave the door of the washer open for at least 24 hours to let it dry out.
Step 2: Disconnect Valves
Once the machine is dry, turn off the main power supply and unplug the power cord. Disconnect and drain the water supply hoses and disconnect the drainage hose from the valve. You can leave the drainage hose connected to the machine or detach it if you have the expertise. Place all valves and nuts into a box and put it inside the washer or on top of it.
Step 3: Clean
Clean the exterior of the machine with a soft cloth and clean underneath it with a vacuum. Place all removed valves and nuts into a box and then place it inside the washer. Alternatively, you can place the box on top of the machine and secure it with tape.
Step 4: Secure All Openings
Secure the power cord and the drainage hose onto the back of the washing machine with tape. Read the instruction manual to learn how to secure the tub before transportation.
Step 5: Time for Movement and Storage
Call a professional or ask a friend to help you move the washer on a trolley to the storage unit. Make sure the storage unit is clean, and store the washing machine in an upright position.
By following these steps, you can safely store your clothes washer in a self-storage unit until you're ready to use it again. Don't forget to label the box containing the valves and nuts so you can easily find them when you need them.
