Best Self Storage Facility in Dryden NY

When Searching for a self storage unit near Lansing consider the following:

  • What would be the average cost of a storage unit?

  • Is it the nearest facility in the town to me?

  • Does the facility have drive up storage units?

Drydren is a beautiful town located in New York between Ithaca and Cornell University and Cortland and SUNY Cortland. It encompasses areas of Northeast Ithaca, Freeville and Groton with the hamlet of Varna, Etna and McLean.  Named for the English poet and playwright John Dryden.  Dryden is one of the best places to live in Central New York providing a mix of suburban and rural elements that few other places can replicate. With a small but highly acclaimed community college, Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3), Dryden boasts an almost perfect balance between agriculture, academia and development. Combine this with beautiful landscape and amazing, breathtaking views and you have a winning combination.

Dryden, New York is definitely a place you would want to visit, so if you happen to want to go there but don't know what to do, don't worry, I'll give you a guide about places you can go to and activities you can do in Dryden, so let's get started.

Yellow Barn State Forest

If you like forests and nature in general then you should definitely visit the Yellow Barn State Forest, this is a large forest in which you can do a lot of different activities, such as biking, hiking and even cross country skiing. The Yellow Barn State Forest has one formal snowmobile trail about three miles in length, used in the summer for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The snowmobile trail is maintained by the Dryden-Caroline Drifters Snowmobile Club. It is said that the best time to visit is in winter but if you bring your bug spray the spring and summer are a great time to roam through the woods as well.  My favorite time of the year to visit is the Fall when all of the Autumn colors are bright and the air is crisp and cool. https://ithacatrails.org/site/Yellow%20Barn%20State%20Forest

Dryden Lake Park, Jim Shug Trail and the Dryden Rail Trail

Dryden Lake Park is a small park that has picnic pavilions that are perfect to enjoy nature, it also has restrooms, a parking lot and playgrounds. The Jim Shug trail provides area residents and visitors of all ages with an opportunity to get fit while enjoying the beautiful environment around them. Permitted activities include walking, bicycling, hiking and horseback riding, as well as snow shoeing and cross country skiing when weather permits. Specifically noted activities that are NOT allowed include snowmobiling, in-line skating and camping. Dryden Lake also provides the opportunity for boating, fishing and ice fishing. There are also wheelchair accessible fishing platforms and a pavilion for picnicking.  The scenic trail features benches as markers for every ½ mile. Posts that share some historical or natural information of the area accompany many of these benches. There is also a vast variety of animals that can be spotted on the trail, including turtles, rabbits, chipmunks, birds, beavers, snakes, and the occasional Bald Eagle among many others.

The future of the trail looks promising as a 3.3-mile addition is currently in the works. This addition would extend the trail to the Village of Freeville along the former Lehigh Valley Railroad bed, connecting the two villages. The trail already runs past local schools, including Tompkins Cortland Community College, as well as the Village Business District. Other future aspirations include a possible connection to the Ithaca Recreation Way through Etna and Varna, further linking communities in the region. https://www.gofingerlakes.org/locations/jim-schug-trail/

Hopshire Farm and Brewery  Located on New York State Rt 13 between Dryden, Freeville and Etna this Microbrewery has a large variety of craft beers and features bands in an indoor and outdoor venue. Their moto is beer from a farm not a factory.  Family owned this business has been growing hops and brewing beer for many years and is bringing hop farming back to New York State. Not only do they brew all of their own beers in house but they also grow some of their their own hops on their farm on Ringwood road in Dryden.  Their craft ales feature NY hops and other local agricultural products in a variety of beer styles.

East Hill Flying Club Located at the Ithaca Tompkins International Airport is the closest airport to Cornell UniversityIthaca College, and many Finger Lakes destinations. As an introduction to flying, East Hill Flying club offers introductory Discovery Flights. It is a 30 to 40 minute flight over Ithaca and surrounding scenic locations such as Taughannock Falls and Cornell University.

They give you an overview of the basic concepts of piloting an aircraft and details about the flight. After a tour of the facilities and viewing a brief introduction video they proceed to the plane and pre-flight the aircraft (required before every flight). Then get inside the airplane for an overview of the controls and instruments. Before you know it, they will start the airplane and you'll be taxiing to the runway. Usually the route of flight will take you over the city of Ithaca and Taughannock Falls, maneuver a bit then come in for a landing. You will spend about a half hour in the air. You will have an introduction to the radio for communications and learn to taxi the plane as well. Overall this is a great way to see Dryden, the city of Ithaca and the Fingerlakes from the air.

That's it! These are some of the most fun activities you can do if you ever visit Dryden New York, as I said before, this is a place you really want to visit.
